The first Italian woman in space has marked the occasion by sipping a coffee brewed while in orbit.
Samantha Cristoforetti, an astronaut at the International Space Station, fired up the first espresso machine to be used while in space over the weekend.
She shared a selfie on her Twitter account with the message: “Coffee: the finest organic suspension ever devised. Fresh espresso in the new zero-G cup! To boldly brew…”
In the picture, she could be seen drinking from a cup specially designed for use in zero-gravity, as she donned a Star Trek uniform.

The special espresso maker, named ISSpresso after the space station’s initials, was created by Lavazza and engineering company Argotec.
Ms Cristoforetti returns to Earth next week following the six month mission.
