Zara withdraws 'concentration camp' striped pyjamas

Fashion retailer Zara has withdrawn a striped shirt featuring a yellow star motif after social media users expressed outrage at the garments resemblance to concentration camp uniforms.

The children's 'sheriff' T-shirt featured blue and white stripes with a six-point yellow star emblazoned on the chest. Online commentators said the T-shirt bore an uncomfortable likeness to the clothing worn by Jewish prisoners during the Holocaust.

On closer inspection the T-shirt had the word 'sherrif' running across the star but this was initially unclear from the websites images.

Uproar followed on Twitter as many felt the star was reminiscent of the Star of David badges Jewish people were required to wear by the Nazis in order to mark them out. Twitter posts accused the brand of anti-Semitism and insensitivity.

One Twitter user said: "This is eerily similar to #ww2 #holocaust uniform @Zara this should be taken down immediately"

Another user commented: "What the hell are you thinking? Emulating how Jews were forced to dress in the Holocaust?"
