A teenage girl has died following a “medical episode” at a major UK festival.
The girl, 17, passed away in the early hours of Sunday morning after suffering the health issue at around 2.15am at Kendal Calling festival in Cumbria.
Cumbria Police are looking into the circumstances after the teen was pronounced dead at the scene despite the best efforts of paramedics.
More than 40,000 people are at the four-day music and arts festival is held annually at Lowther Deer Park in the Lake District.
Headliners at the event include Wolf Alice, Primal Scream, Biffy Clyro, Scissor Sisters and Groove Armada.
Officers have asked for anyone in the Calling Out tent area and the Big Wheel at the time of the tragedy to get in contact.
Police and emergency services from the North West Ambulance Service attended and administered CPR to the girl but could not save her.
The teenager’s family have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.
Cumbria Police said in a statement: “Our thoughts are with them at this difficult time.
“Officers are particularly keen to speak with a group of women who alerted first responders to the girl after becoming concerned for her welfare.”
A Kendal Calling spokesperson said said: “The team at Kendal Calling are deeply saddened by the passing of a festival attendee in the early hours of Sunday morning following a medical episode.
“As soon as the individual became unwell, they were immediately attended to by our on-site security and medical teams.
“Paramedics and medical personnel provided emergency care at the scene and did everything they could to help.
“We extend our deepest sympathies to the individual’s family, friends and loved ones at this incredibly difficult time.
