Reports on 14 November 2013 state Britain's Prime Minister David Cameron as saying Britain is to send HMS Illustrious, that has a 22,000 tonnes displacement, to the Philippines to assist in the relief and aid operations following the devastation caused by typhoon Haiyan. At least 2,357 people were confirmed dead after Haiyan ripped through the Philippines on November 8, flattening cities and towns, the national disaster relief agency said 14 November. In the meantime, the USS George Washington has arrived in the Philippines 14 November to bring much-needed help to typhoon-devastated eastern provinces. EPA/GERRY PENNY
