Prince Louis made a surprise appearance alongside his parents, the Prince William and Princess of Wales, at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, where Canada is among the nations competing.

Canada is one of 56 Commonwealth nations represented at the Games, with a team of athletes competing across multiple sports.

The Prince and Princess of Wales were joined by their three children on a family trip to watch the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

Prince Louis, now eight years old, delighted royal fans with his rare public appearance as he watched the games alongside his siblings.

The royals visited on the penultimate day of the Commonwealth Games, which will have its closing ceremony on Sunday.

Louis looked enthralled as he watched the second semi final in the Women's Netball between Jamaica and Australia.

On Saturday, events including netball, athletics, boxing and judo are taking place.

William and Kate will also spend time with athletes competing at the games whose careers have been empowered by the charity SportsAid, which Kate has supported as patron since 2013, and meet emerging talent taking part in the Team England Futures project.

The Prince and Princess of Wales are heirs to the Canadian throne, making their presence at a Commonwealth event of particular interest to Canadians.

Team England Futures has given talented young athletes and aspiring support staff the opportunity to attend the Glasgow games to gain behind-the-scenes experience in preparation for potential medal-winning performances as Team England, Team GB or ParalympicsGB debutants.
