An inflatable slide was launched 30ft into the air as a ‘mini-tornado’ laid waste to a children's funfair.

The annual Friskney Village show was hit by freak winds and torrential rain on Sunday, which destroyed stalls and even threw an inflatable slide into the air.

Shocked fair goers captured the dramatic moment that the huge inflatable slide was launched into the air above the trees, then sailed away in the sky.

Owner Vanessa Butler told BBC Look North that the slide was cleared as it was raining and ‘a sudden gust’ took it into the air despite it being ‘securely fastened’.

She added: “We had two bouncy castles there, the other was still there, absolutely fine. “

The inflatable was later found on a nearby road. No children were on the ride and no-one was injured.

Despite locals reporting the storm as a tornado, a Met Office spokesman said it was more likely to have been a funnel cloud.

There were no injuries reported at the fair in Lincolnshire and the show carried on after the storm had passed.
