Graduate invited for numerous job interviews after writing application as grime rap

A graduate has been inundated with job offers for work after writing her application as a grime rap.

Anastasia Glover submitted her application to the recruitment agency, Forward Role, after her own job search proved fruitless.

In her “rap” the 21-year-old from Ashbourne, Derbyshire, claimed she worked “propa ‘ard” to achieve her “2:1 ting.”

She said she sent the application in a bid to stand out among the other applicants.

She said: "I’ve been sending my CV here, there and everywhere and getting nowhere. Businesses want experience but it’s really hard to get that experience when you’ve just graduated. It seems like the market is pretty saturated so I really wanted to make sure my email and my CV didn’t get lost in amongst all the rest."

The full rap read: "Man's goin job centre, signing on the dole.

"Recruitment company aven't got man a role,

"Sending bare email and getting no response,

"CV probably only been looked at once.

"Trial shifts, mans been messed about bare,

"it's probably because av got propa skanky hair,

"Can't afford to flex on a highlight ting,

"Student loan bin an gone, look like a ming.

"Man got degree from university,

"a 2:1 ting, am serious G,

"worked propa ard and achieved a goal,

"still getting pied from man like forward role.

"Got no job an a got no mandem,

"I'd go on a bike ride, someone jacked me tandem.

"My CV [ALLOW IT FAM] below its attached,

"Be feeling propa blessed when a reply is dispatched."

Since sending the email on March 20 she has received numerous interview offers.

Ms Glover’s rap went viral on Linkedin and she received a dozen offers from businesses wanting to speak with her.

Steve Thompson, Managing Director at Forward Role said he thought her application showed “creativity.”

He said: “It shows brilliant creativity and a real willingness to think outside the box. With that level of creativity, we believe she has a brilliant future and we can’t wait to play a part in finding her the perfect role.”

But many people criticised the positive response Ms Glover’s application received claiming that it highlighted double standards black candidates face when seeking employment.

Cat K wrote: “Ah another fantastic day to be white.”

Yvonne said: “If she was black they wouldn’t even give her a word in edgeways…yeah I said it.”

Another person wrote: “Black people do not try this at home.”

Ms Glover spoke out about the attention her application has received in a tweet.

She said: "This article is both misleading AND doesn't include the full story, or rap for that matter. I empathise with this racial issue but everyone has formed their opinion based on minimal and misleading background information."
