Forecasters said that while water levels were the highest since January 2003, they remained stable and the Thames Barrier would not be raised.
Alison Baptiste, Flood and Coastal Risk Manager for the Environment Agency, said: “River levels are starting to drop a little in some places, but they are still very high along the River Thames. We are monitoring the situation closely with particular attention to communities in Surrey.
“Environment Agency teams continue to work around the clock monitoring river levels, clearing watercourses, and working with communities to make them aware of their flood risk. We want to stress to residents that the risk of further flooding has not passed and they should remain vigilant.”
