A female cyclist is fighting for life after being hit by a lorry at a busy roundabout in east London.

Police rushed to Old Street Roundabout, in Islington, to reports of a crash between a lorry and a cyclist.

The busy roundabout, next to Old Street Tube Station, was sealed off shortly after 3.30pm on Wednesday.

The Met Police said the woman had been taken to hospital in a critical condition.

Dramatic images posted on social media showed a bike lying in the road close to a cement truck.

Numerous police cars, fire engines and ambulances were also pictured within the police cordon.

A police spokesman said: “Enquiries are underway to inform her next-of-kin.

“Road closures are in place.

“No arrests have been made and enquiries continue.”
