Everest hero George Lowe dies

The remaining climber from the British-led team which first ascended Mount Everest has died aged 89 at a nursing home in Ripley, Surrey.

George Lowe helped establish the final camp 1,000 feet below the summit in 1953. Fellow New Zealander Edmund Hillary reached the 29,035ft peak the next day.
