The last remaining body has been pulled from the wreckage at Didcot Power Station more than six months after it partly collapsed.

Thames Valley Police said tonight they believe they have located John Shaw, 61, who has been missing since a boiler plant fell in February.

His family have been informed.

Mr Shaw is understood to be the last of four men whose bodies were recovered following the power station collapse.

Ken Cresswell, 57, from Rotherham in South Yorkshire, was discovered among the rubble on Wednesday.

Christopher Huxtable, from Swansea, was found on August 31 while Michael Collings was located soon after the building fell to the ground.

A police spokesman said: "The contractors have paused the removal of debris so that specialists from Thames Valley Police, Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service urban search and rescue and the South Central Ambulance Service hazardous area response team (Hart), can enter the site.

"The safe recovery of the body will take place and the disaster victim identification process will commence.

"The person has not yet been formally identified and this will be a matter for the coroner, although it is believed to be John Shaw.

"Our thoughts remain with the families and friends of all four men and we would ask that their privacy is respected during this incredibly difficult time."

In July, site owner RWE Npower carried out a controlled explosive demolition at the decommissioned site in an effort to locate Mr Shaw, from Rotherham, and his colleagues.

The firm said experts were working seven days a week, 12 hours a day, in an effort to recover the bodies.
