An 88-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a woman was found dead at a home in Reading.

Thames Valley Police were called to an address in Elm Lane, Lower Earley at 11.25am by ambulance crews.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene and a man was airlifted to hospital in Oxford with stomach injuries.

Detective Chief Inspector Mark Glover said: “This is a very early stage in the investigation and we are in the process of determining the circumstances leading up to this woman’s death and the man’s injuries.

“However at this stage it appears to be an isolated incident with no other party involvement.

“Next of kin have been informed. Forensic examinations are taking place at the property and officers are likely to be there for some time.

“We would like to thank the local residents for their patience and tolerance while we carry out our investigation.”
