Commuters faced a third consecutive day of delays at London Waterloo as a circuit failure caused fresh misery.

Services from the busy transport hub, one of the busiest in the UK, were left crippled during morning rush hour as engineers worked to fix the problem at Vauxhall on Wednesday.

It comes after major disruption caused by a track-side fire caused chaos for rail customers using the same station for almost 24 hours from Monday afternoon.

National Rail warned that today's circuit failure would not be fixed until after rush hour, sparking fears that delays could continue this evening.

Customers travelling through Vauxhall were facing delays of up to 45 minutes, the operator said.

South Western Railway train services are expected to be disrupted until 2pm.

In statement, National Rail said: “Engineers have attended and have determined that there is a requirement to replace some equipment in order to rectify the fault, this will take place after the morning peak.

“Until this time trains will be unable to stop at Platform 8 at Vauxhall Station.”

Rail customers using the busy station this morning took to social media to vent their outrage, with one saying: “Waterloo like the others packed on to platform 1, the last announcement says you are waiting for staff, the service you now offer is a joke.”

Another wrote: “Stay tuned for tomorrow’s impending disaster... what ever will it be?”
