Rush hour delays as train breaks down at Blackfriars

A train broke down at Blackfriars causing rail commuters huge disruption throughout the morning peak.

First Capital Connect (Thameslink) and Southeastern commuters suffered delays of up to 35 minutes.

Trains crawled through the affected area between London Bridge and Elephant & Castle.

FCC advised commuters to use the Tube instead.

Southern services from Horsham to Victoria continued to be delayed by the weather-caused landslide onto the tracks near Horsham.

A restricted service is operating during morning and evening peaks.

Network Rail say embankment damage was severe and repairs could take another two weeks.

Long distance services to and from the west of England from Waterloo (South West Trains) and Paddington (First Great Western) continue to suffer minor delays due to flooding and other weather-related problems.

The Blackfriars problem persisted throughout the morning, with some First Capital Connect (FCC) services delayed for up to 100 minutes.

In Kent, buses had to replace trains between Sevenoaks and Otford via Bat & Ball station in Sevenoaks.

FCC journeys between London and Bedford were delayed, while some Southeastern train company journeys were diverted via Catford in south east London.

Passengers planning to use Blackfriars were advised to use Victoria in London as an alternative station.
