Motorists faced lengthy delays on the North Circular this evening after a minor road accident caused miles of tailbacks.

The crash on the A406 close to the junction with the A10 in Edmonton, north London, left drivers queuing for hours during the rush hour.

A fault with a road sign following the crash caused further confusion for drivers from about 5pm.

Tracey Proudlock tweeted a photograph of the sign, saying: "Problems getting home tonight on the north circular. Any idea what this road sign is saying?"

Other motorists vented their frustration at the delays in posts on Twitter.
