Fog delays flights for second day in a row

Fog disrupted London City Airport services for the second successive day with many flights cancelled or delayed.

Passengers were again advised to contact their airline to check flight status before setting out.

Strike action by French air traffic controllers also threatened flights between Paris and other French airports and the UK.

The controllers have joined general strike action which is also affecting other transport and public services.

Air France said most long-haul flights were running to schedule but some European and domestic flights could be affected.

Up to 30 per cent of flights from Paris Charles de Gaulle faced cancellation.

On the Tube, Jubilee line and Metropolitan commuters faced major delays due to a broken down train at Wembley Park.

Services improved on the Jubilee line as the morning peak progressed by severe delays continued on the Metropolitan line.

Thousands of Central line users face 12-days of disruption from tomorrow.

Services will be suspended on part of the Hainault loop for upgrade work.

Trains will not run between Grange Hill and Newbury Park on weekdays or between Woodford and Leytonstone on the two affected weekends of 27 and 28 October and 3 and 4 November.

The closure will affect 7,500 passengers a day. Central line services will continue to run between cental London and Epping during the closure.

First Great Western mainline rail commuters from Greenford into Paddington were delayed due to a broken down train at Greenford.
