London’s black cab drivers brought traffic to a standstill again on Monday as part of a five-day protest over the closure of a busy junction to cars.
Taxis descended on Bank Junction, close to London Bridge and the Bank of England, at 3pm in an ongoing row over its planned closure to cars.
Drivers had vowed to stay on until 7pm, although City of London Police said the protest was only permitted for 90 minutes.
Roads were reopened shortly after 5pm.
The demonstration followed hot on the heels of one last Thursday which caused travel chaos in the area.
And taxi drivers have threatened to return to the junction every evening this week to make their voices heard.
One bystander at Monday’s protest said there appeared to be hundreds of vehicles involved.
The City of London corporation intends to ban cars, taxis and lorries from the junction between 7am and 7pm in a safety move.
