Call of Duty remains one of the biggest gaming franchises in the world - and the latest instalment in the series has now been officially confirmed.
Titled Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, the first-person shooter will be released on November 4.
Developed by Infinity Ward - the team behind the acclaimed Call of Duty: Modern Warfare series - the game looks to be set in space, but promises a ‘return to the roots of the franchise where large-scale war and cinematic, immersive military storytelling take center stage’.
The California-based studio has some work to do after their last entry, 2013's Call of Duty: Ghosts received a mixed response from critics and players.
For those worrying that Infinite Warfare’s intergalactic new direction might be a step too far for the franchise, which has previously set games in World War 2 and Vietnam, there’s good news. Activision confirmed that some editions of Infinite Warfare will include a remastered version of Modern Warfare - arguably the most well-received game in the series.
It also looks like Call of Duty will once again be going head-to-head with rival shooter Battlefield, with a new title in that series expected to be announced on Friday. Little is known of EA and DICE's upcoming offering, but rumours suggest that it will remain in familiar settings - likely showcasing the next generation of the acclaimed Devolution technology - allowing for massive, level-changing destruction.
