The new computer is the thinnest MacBook the company has ever made at just 13.1mm at its thickest point - a measurement that is 24 per cent thinner than the current MacBook Air.
The technology firm announced it would next month be releasing ResearchKit, a software framework made specifically for medical research.
It turns the iPhone into a diagnostic tool, so that people can take part in medical research through their phone.
Diseases they intend to research include diabetes, Parkinson's, heart disease, breast cancer and asthma. The first five apps for the software were made available today.

It emerged that the company was teaming up with American television channel HBO to provide a new television streaming service.
Richard Plepler, CEO of HBO, described the move as a "transformative moment" for HBO as he made the announcement.
The streaming service called HBO Now with Apple which will allow people to watch HBO on Apple products and users will have access to the entire HBO back catalogue.
