Outgoing prime minister Boris Johnson appeared to drag his wife Carrie Johnson away from the crowds of supporters outside Downing Street following his farewell speech.
Tory MPs and staff from No10 stood outside to hear Mr Johnson’s final speech before delivering his resignation as prime minister to the Queen at Balmoral Castle.
But after stepping away from the podium, Mr Johnson seemed keen on leaving as soon as possible.
Video footage shows Mr Johnson taking his wife’s hand and swiftly moving through the crowd as they clapped and cheered him.
Carrie Johnson could be seen hugging and kissing farewell to a number of people before being whisked away by Mr Johnson into an awaiting car, narrowly avoiding a collision with a lampost.
Boris and Carrie Johnson - both the former appeared to be in a rush REUTERSOne Twitter user joked: “Strong ‘Bowser kidnapping Princess Peach vibes”.
As soon as Boris Johnson began his speech, protesters began playing ‘Bye Bye Boris’ from Kings Charles Street, while others could be heard shouting from Whitehall.
Tory MPs who had gathered to watch Boris Johnson’s farewell speech broke into cheers as he finished his address.
Boris whisked his wife away PAAdressing his future, Mr Johnson said: “On the subject of bouncing around in future careers, let me say that I am now like one of those booster rockets that has fulfilled its function.
“I will now be gently re-entering the atmosphere and splashing down invisibly in some remote and obscure corner of the Pacific.
“Like Cincinnatus, I am returning to my plough and I will be offering this Government nothing but the most fervent support.”
He has arrived to hand in his resignation to the Queen at Balmoral Castle in Scotland.
