Cambridge classics professor and Londoner’s Diary pin-up Mary Beard has got the bit between her teeth since receiving an OBE in the New Year honours.

She has taken to Twitter to correct presenter Melvyn Bragg over his inaccurate account of life in ancient Greece n his Radio 4 series. “Melvyn Bragg saying everyone in ancient Greece turned up at the plays. Err— ‘everyone’ except women and slaves, that is.”
