Boris Johnson was pictured cycling near the Burj Khalifa tower in Dubai yesterday, after which he went on to Abu Dhabi to give a speech to business leaders.

“There are so many people from the UAE in the Knightsbridge and Mayfair areas that over the summer I have the honour to be the mayor of the eighth emirate,” he said.

In a CNBC interview with Tania Bryer broadcast tomorrow, Boris tells her: “I’m a wily cyclist. I hug the kerb like a ship in the ancient Mediterranean world. For fear of storms, they used to hug the coastline. I’ve been doing it for a long time.”
