The hot weather may have cooled off a little on Tuesday - but the heat is still playing havoc with London’s trains.

South Western Railway (SWR) passengers are experiencing travel misery for the second day in a row, with speed restrictions in place due to high track temperatures across their entire network.

All SWR services will be disrupted for the remainder of Wednesday, with trains being cancelled, revised, or facing lengthy delays.

There have also been a number of signalling faults across the SWR network to compound the pain.

The train operator runs commuter services from Waterloo to south-west London, suburban services in Surrey, Hampshire, Berkshire and Dorset, as well as regional services in Devon, Somerset and Wiltshire.

There have also been a plethora of other issues on the rail networks - many of which are expected to continue through rush hour and into the evening.

A points failure at Cheshunt means that trains running through the station may be revised or severely delayed by up to 60 minutes, impacting a number of Greater Anglia and Stansted Express passengers.

Meanwhile, another points failure between Wembley Central and London Euston is also blocking a number of lines in north London.

Trains running between Watford Junction and London Euston and Clapham Junction may be cancelled, revised or delayed by up to 30 minutes as a result, with the disruption expected until the end of the day.

The delays will hit passengers on Avanti West Coast and London Northwestern Railway services to and from London Euston, as well as Southern services between East Croydon, Selhurst and Clapham Junction and Watford Junction.

Tube and Overground services are also suffering on Wednesday.

A person has been hit by a train between Willesden Junction and Clapham Junction, meaning trains are not currently calling at West Brompton.

There is also a shortage of train crew between Stratford and Richmond & Clapham Junction, resulting in a reduced service running between these stations.

As of 4.30pm, there were also the below delays on the Tube and Overground:

  • Bakerloo line: Severe delays due to train cancellations
  • Mildmay line: Severe delays due to train cancellations
  • Suffragette line: Severe delays due to a signal failure at Leyton Midland Road
  • Weaver line: Severe delays between Edmonton Green and Cheshunt due to an earlier signal failure at Cheshunt

In a post on X, the service said that their 999 control room received over 8,000 calls, with record number of calls from 2pm until midnight.
