Plans to upgrade a south London park with new play equipment, redesigned areas and improved accessibility have been submitted.
Wandsworth Council wants to transform Furzedown Recreation Ground, in Tooting, to make better use of the area for visitors.
The proposals would involve redesigning the park’s playground and skatepark, including adding new inclusive equipment and seating, and redeveloping the former bowling green. Fences would be removed, while planting and pathways would be adjusted to improve connections across the park.
The area surrounding the park’s pavilion would also be transformed into a more welcoming space to support potential future redevelopment with a new café and toilets, although these facilities do not form part of the current application.

The documents added: “The design aims to improve movement across the site, strengthen visual connections, create more comfortable and inclusive places to sit and meet, provide renewed play and activity opportunities, and introduce a softer landscape character through tree planting, biodiversity enhancements and more naturalistic forms.”
The council previously allocated £685,000 to improve the park, although the exact cost of works included in the current application has not been published.
The council will make a decision on the plans in due course.
