Palestine protest briefly shuts down Oxford Circus

Protesters took to the streets of London today calling for an end to military occupation in Palestine.

Demonstrators gathered outside the Israeli embassy in Kensington High Street carrying placards and waving Palestinian flags.

Oxford Circus, one of London's busiest shopping hubs, was also briefly closed by demonstrators mounting a sit-down protest over Palestine.

Campaigners, carrying banners reading "Solidarity with the Palestinian Resistance", gathered at the crossing between Oxford Street and Regent Street in central London.

Layla White, of London Palestine Action, said on Saturday: "We've taken disruptive direct action today to draw attention to the Palestinian popular resistance which is defying curfews and reclaiming the streets of Palestine against military occupation every day."

Transport for London said about 10 buses were briefly diverted by a group of people who blocked the road.
