A series of booming "explosion" sounds have baffled residents after echoing across north-east London.
Police were called after three large bangs were heard from Wanstead to Ilford at about 11pm on Sunday.
The noises sparked a flurry of posts on social media as residents speculated over the source of the mysterious sounds.
Soumya Basu (@basusoum) posted on Twitter: “Anyone else hear three loud bangs around Redbridge/Wanstead?”
Tom Bellwood (@TomBellwood) said: “Anyone else hear those three big bangs across Wanstead just now? Just me..?”
And Cathertine Pearson (@catherine041081) added: “Heard 3 very loud bangs in Woodford Green & wasn’t *too* worried about it until I started reading everyone else’s tweets. What is going on?”
Others posted on Twitter that a helicopter was hovering above the Woodford and Barkingside areas.
A Metropolitan Police Service spokesman said: “We were alerted to reports of loud bangs in parts of Redbridge at around 11pm last night.
“There was nothing untoward, with no damage or injuries."
