Masked protesters clashed with police during a "million masks" anti-government march to mark Bonfire Night.

The annual Anonymous protest began peacefully in Trafalgar Square but within an hour a large group was facing down riot cops who blocked them from moving west at Parliament Square.

Two lines of police hemmed in the protesters who had refused to move on after bangers and firecrackers were set off.

Fearing violence after last year's clashes, the Met had set out strict march conditions including a fixed route and three congregation points.

Officers were booed and a handful of missiles thrown while some demonstrators argued and reasoned with the police.
