Man killed in flat fire in Shepherd's Bush

A man has died after a fire in a flat in west London.

London Fire Brigade were called to reports of a fire on Sawley Road, Shepherd’s Bush, just after 13:20pm this afternoon.

Around 14 firefighters battled the blaze – the cause of which is unknown this stage – for over an hour.

Officers from Metropolitan Police attended alongside the London Ambulance Service, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

A woman was taken to hospital where she is being treated for smoke inhalation, a spokesperson for the Met said.

An investigation into the cause of the fire is currently underway.
