A man has died after falling from height at a building site in the heart of Mayfair.
The man plunged to his death at the junction of Berkeley Street and Stratton Street in the exclusive central London neighbourhood.
Emergency services were scrambled to the scene on Thursday afternoon following reports that a man had fallen from height on a construction site.
A man in his 30s was pronounced dead after paramedics arrived. His next-of-kin have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.
The Health and Safety Executive has been informed about the incident.
The incident has shut Berkeley Street and Stratton Street while the incident is investigated by authorities.
The death occurred near to the five star May Fair Hotel that sits in Stratton Street.
The incident is also close to the world-famous Ritz in Piccadilly and near to Green Park Tube station.
A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said: “Police were called at around 13:51hrs on Thursday, 9 July following reports that a man had fallen from height on a construction site at the junction of Berkeley Street and Stratton Street, W1.
“Officers attended with the London Ambulance Service. Sadly, a man in his 30s was pronounced dead at the scene. His next-of-kin have been informed and are being supported by officers.
“Berkeley Street and Stratton Street have been closed while enquiries continue. The Health and Safety Executive have been informed about the incident.”
A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We were called at 1.46pm yesterday (9 July) to reports of a person who had fallen from height in Stratton St, Mayfair.
“We sent an ambulance crew, paramedics in fast response cars and an incident response officer to the scene. We also dispatched London’s Air Ambulance.
