Londoners hoping for a repeat of last weekend’s baking weather are set to be disappointed – but at least fears of a washout have been eased.

Though stormy weather was expected in the capital and south-east on Friday afternoon, the Met Office says Saturday and Sunday will be relatively dry.

Meteorologist Bonnie Diamond said Saturday should be a “decent day”, with temperatures averaging 22C.

It’s expected to be “largely dry” for most of the day, though there is a 50 per cent chance of showers in the evening.

Ms Diamond said that Sunday is likely to be more “unsettled” in London and the south-east. It will be largely cloudy, with some outbreaks of showers.

It comes after the UK heatwave came to an abrupt end this week.

The capital was struck by downpours on Thursday and Friday, while the mercury fell below 20C for the first time since early June.

The Met Office said Londoners can expect a two-week break from the recent sweltering weather, with temperatures set to rise again towards the end of the month.
