Wildlife expert John Bryant said: “Incidents of foxes attacking human beings are extremely rare. I have been working with foxes for 40 years and I have never been attacked. I have only ever been bitten during a rescue. It is very hard to second guess what went on here.
“It was lunch time so perhaps the fox had been used to someone throwing food out in the area at that time.”
“But it might have thought that the furry looking boots were an animal or animals attacking. I could guess that it may have felt it was under attack.
This attack comes after reports of fox attempting to drag a three-year-old boy away by the foot while he was out on a sledge at the weekend.
The wild animal locked its jaws around Alfie Whitelock’s boot as he played in the garden of his home in daylight, in Chislehurst, Kent, before his father ran to the rescue.
In June 2010, twins Lola and Isabella Koupparis were almost killed by a fox which crept in through open sliding French windows at their east London home.
