Drivers on two of London's busiest Tube lines are staging a 24-hour strike today sparking travel chaos for hundreds of thousands of commuters.
The strike by drivers from the Aslef union will affect the Central and Waterlooo & City lines.
There has been no service since midnight on the two lines and normal service is not expected to resume until Thursday morning.
Transport for London said members of the union were striking because it had refused to reinstate a driver who failed a drugs test and another who opened doors while a train was in a tunnel.

Ticket acceptance
Buses, DLR, London Overground and TfL Rail will accept Tube single and return tickets and National Rail cross-London tickets on reasonable alternative routes.
Travelcards will be accepted on other services as usual (within the zones of the tickets).
Pay as you go users will be charged the fare for the services used. Check your fare online with our single fare finder.
You can top-up your pay as you go credit or buy a Travelcard using the TfL Oyster app, online or at one of our many Oyster Ticket Stops.
Refunds will generally not be made.
TfL has warned the following stations will also be busier during the strike:
- Covent Garden
- Leicester Square
- Mile End
- Woodford
- Leytonstone
- White City
It said other lines will run normally, but they may be busier than usual, in particular:
- The Jubilee line from Stratford
- and the Circle, Hammersmith & City and Metropolitan lines from Liverpool Street

Triple whammy of Tube and train strikes ON tomorrow as talks failA Tube strike that will cripple two London Underground lines tomorrow will go ahead after talks broke down, officials have said. Thousands of Londoners face a triple-whammy of strikes on Friday as Tube and rail workers walk out in the latest wave of industrial action. The Tube strikes, by Aslef train drivers, will begin just after midnight and normal service on the busy Central line, used by 800,000 passengers a day, will not return until mid-morning on Saturday.
London Overground, TfL Rail and DLR
TfL has advised London Overground, TfL Rail and DLR services will operate normally during the strike.
However TfL Rail services via Ilford are expected to be extremely busy.
Commuters are warned that the following stations will be busier than usual: Stratford, Liverpool Street, Ilford, Highams Park and Shepherd's Bush.
Transport for London has updated its travel advice this afternoon ahead of the Tube strike tomorrow.
It has provided a list of stations that are expected to be the worst hit by the strike and that are likely to be the most busy.
These include:
- Stratford
- Liverpool Street
- Tottenham Court Road
- Bank
- Oxford Circus
- Bond Street
- Holborn
- Ealing Broadway
- Notting Hill Gate
The Tube strike coincides with a 48-hour strike by South Western Railway workers which will impact services to and from Waterloo. This walkout also begins at midnight.
