He has been supported by best friend Ross Hutchins, who is battling cancer, and has been wearing a patch on his arm on court in support of The Royal Marsden hospital, which has been treating Hutchins for Hodgkin’s lymphoma.
Murray’s father William, who has also been watching his matches, shares the belief that the Scot will finally triumph, and said: “We are all keeping our fingers crossed.”
A spokesman for Wimbledon said the Centre Court roof “has allowed many spectators the opportunity to watch the tennis they had come to see as the rain fell around the grounds. It has proved very popular both with spectators and the players, and will be put to perfect use later today when the rain falls as has been predicted.”
