Four people have been placed into isolation after contracting the virus responsible for the outbreak of swine flu seven years ago.

Royal Berkshire Hospital in Reading said the patients were being treated for the H1N1 virus, which is now named ‘seasonal flu’.

The patients, whose ages and genders are unknown, were admitted into the hospital after developing bronchitis and chest infections.

Tests showed all four were positive for the H1N1 virus and were placed into isolation away from other hospital patients.

A Royal Berkshire Hospital spokesman added: “They were admitted because of other related and underlying health conditions.

The H1N1 virus caused a pandemic in 2009, with 540,000 cases reported across the UK.
