Police are hunting a driver after an elderly man was killed in a hit-and-run crash in north east London.

The 78-year-old man died at the scene in South Woodford on Sunday evening at 6.30pm.

The driver of the car sped off from the scene. The car, a white VW Golf, was found abandoned in a nearby street, the Met Police said.

Officers are now investigating the hit and run, which happened on Woodford Road at the junction with Bedford Road.

The pensioner’s next-of-kin have been told but formal identification is yet to take place.

No one has been arrested so far, the Met said.
