Central London erupted into anarchic scenes as riot police attempted to disperse the crowds at the end of the Million Mask March.
As officers tried to make arrests, they were charged at by protesters furiously shouting of “f*** the police” and “police brutality”.
Several glass bottles were thrown as police escorted another protester away as pockets of aggression moved sporadically around Trafalgar Square.
Hoards of officers attended the protest and 33 people were arrested – some for refusing to remove their masks.

The protest was scheduled to end at 9pm but hundreds of activists were refusing to leave, sparking intervention from riot police.

Protesters were adorned with Guy Fawkes masks and carrying banners with anti-Government slogans written on them.

The Metropolitan Police force had issued a warning in the run-up to the march, organised by the hacking group Anonymous, emphasising that restrictions would be enforced following violent scenes last year.

Police said anyone who breached the conditions or the route would be arrested.

Angela Windsor, an unemployed 40-year-old, said she travelled from Wales to take part in the event.

"I think everyone here cares enough about people to make the effort to come down and try and do something, because the officials aren't doing it."
Protest: Police patrolled the route of the march PAShe said anyone who tried to incite a repeat last year's violent displays would be missing the point.
"Nobody wants a fight, we just want change," she said.
But she was forced to defend the wording of a sign she was brandishing - including the words "death to the monarchy" - when questioned about it by passers-by.
