Mill Hill shopkeeper death: Boy, 16, charged with murder of Vijay PatelVijay Patel, left, died on Monday following the assault on Saturday night.

A teenage boy has been charged with murder after a shopkeeper was killed in Mill Hill.

The 16-year-old, from Brent, was charged on Tuesday, one day after being arrested in connection with the death.

Shop worker Vijay Patel, 49, died in hospital on Monday evening after spending nearly two days on life support in hospital.

Police said he was found lying injured on the pavement following a serious assault outside off licence Rota Express on The Broadway at 11.45pm on Saturday.

Officers believe three people were involved in the incident.

Married father-of-two Mr Patel lived in the Colindale area after moving to London from India in 2006. An online fundraising page has been set up for his family and has so far raised more than £10,000.

Police are continuing their appeal for information.
