Police have arrested a teenager after reports a ‘killer clown’ brandishing a chainsaw was scaring people on a university campus.

The student, wearing a terrifying clown mask, allegedly caused panic at Brunel University campus in Uxbridge by chasing people with a chainsaw.

Police have now announced that a 19-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of a public order offence on Tuesday in connection with the incident.

A 22-year-old economics student who filmed the chase from his bedroom window at 9pm on Saturday said: “I heard the noise of a chainsaw outside. I think it’s dangerous.

A Met police spokesperson said: “Police in Uxbridge investigating a series of public order offences at Brunel University on Kingston Lane have made an arrest.

“It was reported that between 7.30pm on Saturday, 8 October and 1.30am on Sunday, 9 October, a man dressed in a clown costume had deliberately frightened a number of people.

“The incident was reported to police on Tuesday, 11 October. On the same day, a 19-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of a public order offence.

“He is currently in custody at a west London police station.”

The student, who is known only as Kenny, told the Standard he was "sorry" for causing panic and explained the stunt was for a YouTube video.

Other incidents include one on Sunday in Archway when a man dressed as a clown and armed with a knife chased a woman down a street in the early hours.

Last Thursday a man wielding a hockey stick was reported following a passer-by near Latimer Road Tube station.

Then early today, two children walking to school were left terrified after being confronted by a man dressed as a clown in Bonham Road, Dagenham.
