An Israeli teenager who was stabbed when a man went on a knife rampage in Russell Square has told of her horror after she watched her attacker murder an American woman next to her.

Yovel Lewkowski, 18, was visiting London with her grandfather from Tel Aviv when she was injured in the frenzied late-night attack in central London.

An American woman, named tonight as Darlene Horton, was killed and five others, including Miss Lewkowski, were knifed when a teenager slashed passers-by at random.

Miss Lewkowski said on her Facebook page the American victim “perished in front of my eyes” in a “matter of seconds” while she stood next to her.

She wrote: “The last few hours have taught me to appreciate every second.

“I don't know whether to call it luck or fate, but no doubt it is some sort of miracle compared to the woman who stood right next to me and perished in front of my eyes: a matter of seconds, metres, breaths.

"I send strength to the family and ask that you take advantage of every moment - nothing is to be taken for granted.

Miss Lewkowski told Israeli media outlet Y Net she went for a walk when she came across the violent attack, near to a hotel in Russell Square where she was staying.

She said: “I saw a woman lying on the floor, covered in blood. Her husband supported her. Suddenly I discovered that I was bleeding.

“I looked and saw that the attacker stabbed me in the hand during the flight (sic).

“A man at the scene tried to calm me down, but he was covered in blood and wounded by stabbing. Luckily he survived.”
