Gang police have launched an investigation after a man was shot near a south London station.

Officers were called to Gipsy Hill, near Crystal Palace, shortly before 4pm to reports of a shooting.

A Met spokesman said a man, thought to be in his 40s, was taken to hospital with injuries described as not life-threatening.

A stretch of Gipsy Hill has been cordoned off while police investigate.

Resident John Bullen, 31, said he saw two police cars and forensic investigators outside the station.

He said: "It's a bit of a shock to see so much police activity here, normally it is a quiet area."
