An east London man has been charged with robbery offences after £30,000 worth of iPhone 17s were stolen from an Apple store.

Avram Stoica, 20, of Pretoria Road, Romford, is accused of taking the haul of smartphones from the branch at Lakeside Shopping Centre in Thurrock, near Grays in Essex.

He is also charged with attempted robbery following reports a suspect entered an Apple shop in Brent Cross Shopping Centre, north west London.

Essex Police said Stoica is alleged to have committed both crimes on September 22.

He had been remanded in custody to appear at Southend Magistrates’ Court on Monday where he faces two further charges possession of an offensive weapon in a public place.

A force spokesman said: “Officers have charged a 20-year-old man with robbery and attempted robbery after tens of thousands of pounds in smartphones were stolen from a Lakeside store.

“Avram Stoica is charged with robbing the Apple Lakeside shopping centre store on September 22, where a suspect took more than £30,000 worth of iPhone 17s.

“He is also charged with attempted robbery, following reports a suspect attempted to rob an Apple store in Brent Cross, also on September 22.

“Stoica is also charged with two counts of possession of an offensive weapon in a public place.

“He was remanded in custody to appear at Southend Magistrates’ Court on Monday, November 24.”
