A TV cameraman has been snared after racking up more than £6,000 worth of parking fines over five years – in just one London borough.

Philip Tunnicliffe, 59, was fined an incredible 69 times in Newham.

But he repeatedly evaded authorities after being caught parking on pavements, yellow lines, driving in bus lanes and ignoring ‘no entry’ signs.

Police eventually tracked him down using insurance records for his Volkswagen Passat – and it was revealed that Tunnicliffe had used a false address to insure his vehicle for a cheaper price.

He admitted fraudulently using a registration mark and making a false statement to obtain insurance at Snaresbrook Crown Court on September 2.

Tunnicliffe, of Capel Road, Forest Gate, who regularly films boxing fights and football matches, was sentenced to six months in prison, suspended for 18 months, and also ordered to carry out 180 hours of community services, pay £500 costs and a victim surcharge of £80.

Inspector Phil Stinger, head of the Met’s Enforcement Partnership Team, said: “Tunnicliffe thought he could get away without paying the fines, and even committed fraud to further maximise his chances.

“But he underestimated the determination of the council and the local police force to track down those who are inconsiderate and a danger on the roads.”
