An airline crew member was arrested at Gatwick Airport after he allegedly turned up to work on a flight smelling of alcohol, police said.

Passengers travelling to Greece yesterday morning were delayed by more than an hour and a half because of the incident.

The Corfu-bound flight's scheduled 9.10am take-off from the West Sussex airport was delayed because the man failed to arrive at work.

When the 45-year-old crew member eventually turned up at 10.40am, he smelled strongly of alcohol and was not allowed to board the plane.
