Oh, Zara. What would we do without you? Who else would make models pose atop stacks of chairs and hunched over on countertops? Who else would quench our endless thirst for asymmetric tops? Who else would fill the gaping void that Topshop left for oh so long? (Until now, it seems).
The Spanish high street giant marked its 50th birthday this week, and its celebration couldn’t have been more chic. It assembled a flock of the world’s most famous models — we’re talking Twiggy, Christy, Cindy, Naomi, Linda, the lot — to be shot by Steven Meisel.
Oh, and there’s more. Forty-five more, to be precise. The flock also includes: Karen Elson, Carolyn Murph, Rianne Van Rompaey, Julia Nobis, Liya Kebede, Doutzen Kroes, Edie Campbell, Imaan Hammam, Amar Akway, Feifei Sun, Mariacarla Boscono, Natasha Poly, Iselin Steiro, Awar Odhiang, Lexi Boling, Paloma Elsesser, Precious Lee, Sasha Pivovarova, Alek Wek, He Cong, Maty Fall, Georgia Palmer.

They all feature in a two-minute film, also shot by Steven Meisel, in which they lip-sync to Donna Summer’s ‘I Feel Love’ (a song that is actually two years younger than Zara!) in honour of the store’s big anniversary.

Zara opened its first store in A Coruña, Galicia, in 1975. Back then, it was called “Zorba” after the 1964 film Zorba the Greek, though it quickly had to rename after owners discovered a bar by the same name existed two streets away. Thank god, or we’d all be wearing Zorba today.
In honour of the store’s 50th birthday — as if we need an excuse — here are ten of the best items you can shop from Zara right now.
