Berlin strangely lacks the variety of boutique hotels you’d expect of such a happening city.
The 80-room Das Stue, a member of Design Hotels, is set to change all that with its charming curved exterior, set on the edge of the Tiergarten park in the West.
Formerly the Danish Embassy and dating back to the 1930s — Das Stue meaning living room — it also has a whole lot of Spanish going on.
It boasts interior design by Spanish architect and designer Patricia Urquiola — look out for objets d’art such as cute leather turtles and neon wire giraffes, a playful reflection of the hotel’s proximity to the zoo — and two restaurants courtesy of Michelin-starred chef Paco Perez.
A glass panel reveals the open kitchen facing the formal restaurant decorated with a copper-pan cluster hung from above. Rooms have high ceilings, hardwood floors, French windows leading on to the leafy park and there’s a small but cleverly-designed spa pool area with Susannah Kaufman treatments.
