Toyota Yaris: Why buy one?

There’s a lot of good superminis around – and the Toyota Yaris is one of them. Is it the best, though?

Well, if you want to drive a hybrid supermini it’s more than the best – it’s your only choice. That shouldn’t be enough on its own – but it’s definitely one reason why the Yaris is worth consideration. Here are five more…

1: It’s impressively roomy for a small car, with plenty of space up front and in the rear – allowing it to carry four adults in comfort and even accommodate five at a pinch.

2: As well as being spacious, the cabin feels full of light thanks to big windows which also allow an excellent view all around. As if that’s not enough, all models come with a rear-view camera.

3: That’s not all you get, either. We recommend the Icon trim level, which comes with Bluetooth, air-con, alloys and touch-screen media – and, if you choose this model with the hybrid engine, also gives you climate and hands-free entry.

4: Toyota’s reputation for reliability is well earned, and the Yaris builds on it. Every version is warrantied for five years, or 100,000 miles, too.

5: Directly related to the Yaris’ reliability are its low running costs – especially in hybrid form, but maintenance and insurance costs are affordable across the range too. It’s the hybrid we’d go for, though, because as well as being so economical it’s the best engine in the range.
