Spyker C8 Preliator revealed

Old meets new in the shape of the successor to the Spyker C8 Aileron. The company has been through many manifestations, but this latest car is the result of a merger with Volta Volare, an electric aircraft company. And it’s pretty interesting.

They’ve kept with the Audi-derived 4.2-litre V8, with the supercharged model producing 518bhp and 443lb ft of torque. This feeds through a six-speed manual to the rear wheels, although a six-speed automatic gearbox is an option.

With the kerb weight just 1305kg, that should leverage a top speed of 201mph, passing 62mph in just 3.7sec.

There are some delightful styling touches to the exterior, such as the notice on the end of the exhaust pipes, but it’s really in the cabin where the full glory can be experienced.

Just note the exposed gear linkage, with brushed aluminium and leather, as well as the dashboard which looks like retro should have looked long ago. However, there are also all the modern touches you’d want in among the hand-stitched leather and green-lit aluminium dials. There is smartphone connectivity, sat-nav through two head-up displays and much more.

Spyker will only make 50 examples of the Preliator, with prices beginning around £303,000.
