Meet the £2.3m Pagani Huayra Roadster

This is a car which costs £2.32m, and they’re only going to build 100. And they’re all sold. So perhaps you should add this to your list of cars you might buy used at some point, when depreciation may have kicked in – or of course the value will be even higher.

So what do you get for over £2m? What you get is less than the Huayra coupé. About 80kg less. As most are aware, this is quite a trick since, normally, converting a hard-top into a convertible or soft-top piles on the pounds rather than losing them.

This clever loss of weight is largely down to the Carbo-Titanium and Carbo-Triax monocoque. These very high-tech materials are said to be more advanced than those composites we see on F1 cars, and the effect is a claimed 52% increase in stiffness compared to the coupé. That’s where the money has gone, then.

The suspension system is 25% lighter and the gearbox is 40% lighter than most dual-clutch units as the Xtrac transmission has a hydraulic and electronic activated shift mechanism.

The transmission is mated to a revised version of the Mercedes-AMG 6.0-litre V12, as seen in the Huayra coupé. The twin, rear-mounted turbos have been re-worked and power is up to 754bhp, a rise of 34bhp. With a dry weight of just 1280kg, that’s a tasty power-to-weight ratio of 589bhp per tonne.
