Infiniti Q60 coupe unveiled

Infiniti has swept away its old G37 with the stylish Q60 production coupe, which was launched at the recent Detroit Motor Show.

Its arrival represents an impressively quick turnaround for Infiniti, which unveiled the original concept only one year ago. The newcomer is longer, wider and higher than its predecessor, and has a longer wheelbase as well. A low drag coefficient of 0.28 helps with stability when pressing on.

There are plenty of Q60 spec options. Those swooping bodylines hide a choice of two suspension set-ups. The upgraded Dynamic Digital Suspension package, available on the Q60 Sport, features software, hardware and damper upgrades over the standard system.

The revised Direct Adaptive Steering electric steer-by-wire system now returns enhanced feel and feedback. Depending on model, its Drive Mode Selector offers up to six levels of response: Standard, Snow, Eco, Customize, Sport and Sport+. Additional sub-modes allow the driver to further tweak response, weight and steering movement to their personal requirements.

The Q60 engine range kicks off with a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder boasting 205bhp and 258lb ft. It returns 24mpg and 154g/km of CO2. Then there’s a new 296bhp or 396bhp 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6, offering 295lb ft and 350lb ft of torque respectively. Efficiency outputs are 23mpg and 154g/km of CO2 for the former, and 22mpg and 206g/km for the latter.

A standard-fit seven-speed auto transmission uses adaptive shift control to read the road. This helps it choose the right drive ratio. There’s a rear-biased all-wheel-drive alternative to the normal rear-drive platform, too.

The Q60 is a high-quality, Far Eastern alternative to the BMW 4 Series and Audi A5, and goes on sale in the summer.
