Ezviz camera - review

Roughly the size of a cricket ball, it is mounted on a magnetic ‘ball’, to keep an eye on your bicycle, motorcycle or scooter - or your house - 24/7. Once the app is downloaded to your smartphone, it’s simple to set the camera up - although you must ensure it can reach your wi-fi signal. Thanks to the mounting ‘ball’ it can easily be positioned.

It provides full high-definition capture, two-way talk, motion detection as well as night-vision, and there is a choice of video output quality options, to reduce file sizes for archiving. The Ezviz C3A can be used inside or outside thanks its IP65-rated weatherproof housing and the makers claim a battery life of over three months. A longer battery life is possible if an additional base station is purchased.

Motion detection means it can be set to send phone alerts if anyone walks near your machine although - despite claims that it can be set to discount superfluous movements - you may need to ignore this option in particularly busy locations, or you might receive too many false alerts.

The camera has an ultra-wide angle lens enabling a large area to be ‘scanned’, and it delivers good quality images of an area up to five metres away. It switches between day and night modes automatically and, of course, by clicking on your phone app, you can inspect your motorcycle or property remotely, no matter where you are, at any time.

Disadvantages are that you will have to remember to charge it up periodically, and that - because of that useful magnetic mount - it will be easy to steal, if placed within reach of dishonest hands.

The camera is also able to hold a MicroSD card to save footage, or users can opt to sign-up to a cloud-based storage. It is available via Amazon.
